I’ve talked a lot about my “why” for taking CBD. I should explain how I choose the products I use to help you make a more informed decision for yourself.
I try not to over complicate things, because frankly life is confusing enough as it is between managing my career, keeping my kids somewhat inline, staying physically active, making time for intimacy….there’s just a lot to process. Adding something like a CBD product shouldn’t add to your stress, but if you’re not careful, it can.
The truth is CBD has been around for centuries, but only in recent years have we really started to study it and it’s benefits. Because the government doesn’t have decades of data or mountains of peer reviewed studies, they don’t have a good grasp on how to regulate it at this point. With no official regulations from the FDA or individual states, the land of CBD hemp oil is still being charted.

“... you cannot know for sure that the product you buy has active ingredients at the dose listed on the label. In addition, the product may contain other (unknown) elements. We also don’t know the most effective therapeutic dose of CBD for any particular medical condition. We need more research but CBD may prove to be an option for managing anxiety, insomnia, and chronic pain. Without sufficient high-quality evidence in human studies we can’t pinpoint effective doses... it’s difficult to know exactly what you are getting.”
While CBD is unregulated, it does not mean you have to take chances with brands that leave their ingredients a mystery. CBD lab testing is very real and any manufacturer that truly has their customers best interests in mind will not only have their CBD products tested, but will also make those results easily available on their website and or packaging.
Without lab testing and readily available results, it is impossible to know what you’re getting. The reality is there are less than reputable manufacturers who may underdose their products, tell you a product contains 100mg of pure CBD (cannabidiol) isolate, when in reality you’re only getting a quarter of that or less.
There is also the risk of THC contamination. With no lab testing and no results, how can you be sure your product contains no THC, which is the psychoactive compound found in cannabis? All Sugar and Kush CBD products are made from pure hemp. One of the benefits of CBD is that it provides many of the benefits attributed to cannabis without the high. You should be able to use a CBD product without the risk of failing a drug test, but if the product you choose doesn’t provide a lab certificate of analysis, you could find yourself in a precarious situation if you have to suddenly submit to a drug screen.
When making a decision on what CBD products to use, make sure you look for independent third party testing. If the lab is the same as, or a subsidiary of the company selling the product, that should be a red flag. That’s essentially telling your kid to clean up his or her room and then allowing them to verify it’s clean, not exactly something you can count on.
