Every once in a while, we all need a little break from social media. The best way to start your digital detox is simple: delete those distracting apps. It may sound scary, but don’t worry: you can re-download them after your break is over. By eliminating even the ability to scroll through your news feed, you’ll feel a lot less inclined to start looking. This is helpful, too, for those of you who need to be near your phone for work or family-related reasons. You’ll be able to make the calls necessary, but you won’t be distracted by the toxins of social media or digital games.

From here, the effort needs to be put into being more present. Often, digital rhetoric gets us disconnected from the world around us, so during this time, it is important to re-establish those connections. When we disconnect, we see the world how it’s meant to be seen, and not through a Snapchat filter.

So, the next time you find yourself getting too wrapped up in online drama or are comparing your life to strangers on the Internet, put your phone down. It’s not worth it! Temporarily disconnect from the online world and embrace the physical world we’ve all been blessed to experience.
